The MoU Excellence Award for 2002-03 was presented to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh at the conference of chief executives of Central Public Sector undertakings in New Delhi on Saturday. The CMD of RINL-VSP, BK.Panda received the award from the Prime Minister.

The Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has sounded red alert besides opening a 24 hour helpline. According to VMC Chief Medical Officer, M.Satyanarayana, 50 squads each comprising a sanitary inspector and supervisor to undertake inspections on the sale of meat in all the wards from Sunday. Anthrax infected animals like fever, weakness and blood oozing are requested to contact immediately.

Charitable Trust by Jains

Sri Visakha Jain Murty Pujak Sangh and the Sri Sambhavnath Jain Seva Mandal have jointly set up a charitable clinic at the Jain temple near Sri Kanya theatre. The Mayor, Rajana Ramani will inaugurate the clinic on Sunday. The clinic headed by a physician K.Aravind Babu will remain open six days a week from 11am to 1pm and from 6pm to 8pm and provide free medical service to the needy patients.

AICC general secretary to visit north Andhra

The All India Congress Committee general secretary, Digvijay Singh will come on Monday on a three day tour in the north Andhra region to have a dialogue with partymen. Mr. Singh who is in charge of the party affairs in the State will elicit the opinion of the party workers on strengthening the organization at the grass root level. The APCC secretary, R.Padmaraju has been appointed as the co-ordinator for his visit.

Eleven more anthrax cases registered

Eleven more persons were sent for screening the Community Health Centre at Aruku Valley after showing symptoms of cutaneous anthrax on Saturday. The Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konatala Ramakrishna along with ZP Chairperson, V.Kanthamma and the Project Officer of ITDA, Paderu SM Rizvi extensively toured this village on Saturday The vaccine to be administered to the animals was yet to reach the village. The Minister said there was a need to open an epidemic centre in the agency area.
