Visakhapatnam, September 19, 2004

The Communist Party of India (M) on Sunday expressed anguish over the functioning of the Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy and accused him of buckling under pressure from World Bank.

After taking part in the district plenary of his party here, the CPI (M) State Secretary, BV Raghavulu told reporters that there were enough indications that the Congress Government was acting in tune with the World Bank directions. Mr.Raghavulu said the Left parties would not hesitate to launch an agitation if the State Government did not keep the promises it made during the elections.

AIR staff protest

The Program Staff of All India Radio and Doordarshan has decided to stop production and production related work from September 20th following a decision taken by the Central Executive Committee, according to Secretary of the Programme Staff Association. The main demand relates to filling of junior time scale posts by promoting programme executives.

Dental camp held

Visakhapatnam, September 19, 2004

The Veluvolu Trust and MPM Trust organized a free dental camp for the staff of newspapers at Gitam Dental College. Chairman of the Gitam Dental College, MVVS Murty who inaugurate the camp said dental treatment were being provided at a nominal fee by the hospital.

The Veluvolu Trust Managing Trustee, Basavapunnaiah and the College Dean M.Rama Swamy also participated.

The Communist Party of India (M) demanded the recall of the Andhra University Vice Chancellor, YC.Simhadri without delay under the 'pretext of the decision to order a judicial probe'. There is no need for a judicial inquiry. The delay in his removal makes one suspect that the Congress Government is trying to shield the VC, the CPI (M) State secretary, BV Raghavulu told reporters on Sunday.

Steps to cut power generation cost
Visakhapatnam, September 19, 2004

The State Government is taking steps to reduce the cost of power generation and see to it that no additional burden is put on consumers, according to the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konatala Ramakrishna. He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the corporate building of the AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd., at Seetammadara on Sunday. The five storied building will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.2.94 crores.
