'Sneha' competitions inaugurated

Under the guidance of NES.Degree College has started conducting competitions to the Degree and Intermediate students. These competitions were inaugurated by SBH, Assistant General Manager K.Nageswararao and these competitions will be held for three days. Nearly one hundred students from various colleges have participated. Prize distribution will be held on 24th of this month to the winners.

Dharna by Student Federation of India

The Student Federation of India has conducted a dharna on Wednesday at the Andhra University Registrar's Office demanding immediate restoration of revaluation and instant examinations which was stopped by the University Authorities. They also demanded facilities in libraries and laboratories according to the SFI District secretary L.Lakshmanarao.

Principal Secretary and two others suspended

The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy ordered the suspension of the Principal Secretary, Health, S.Bhale Rao, the General Manager of AP Health Medical and Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation, Y.Venkata Rao and the Dy.Secretary in the Health Department, K.Padamavathi Devi on Wednesday. He also ordered disciplinary proceedings to be taken up against the former Managing Director and Engineering in chief of APHMHIDC, K.Lakshminarayana under the Pension Rules. These actions were taken on the basis of a report submitted by the Director General of ACB on various irregularities in appointments and procurement of medical equipment by the officials early this year.

After HiTech City and Pharama City, Visakhapatnam prepares for Ceramic City

The State Government is contemplating setting up a ceramic specific industrial estate named 'Ceramic City' on the lines of ceramic clusters developed with the technical support of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
The Ceramic City is being contemplated with facilities for research, product development and testing, education and training facilities and common facilities in firing and glazing. A team of officials APIIC and ceramic consultants visited the Central Glass and Ceramic Research institute, Kolakata and ceramic clusters in Tangah, in Gujarat to identify the needs of the industry.

Madhumathi refuses to end fast

Ms.N.Madhumathi Devi who launched an indefinite hunger strike eight days ago on Wednesday refused to call it off till her demand of ending corruption was conceded by the Government. The Joint Collector, Peeyush Kumar who went to the KGH where she was shifted by the Police on September 17th tried in vain to convince here to give up the fast.
She said she was not convinced by the Joint Collector's statement that the Government is making efforts to reduce the corruption by some procedures and would control the evil. The representatives of VIRASAM, Stree Vimukti, AP Mahila Samakhya, Jagruti Mahila Samakhya and Stree Vimukti Sanghatana submitted a memorandum to the Collector appealing him to make Ms.Madhumathi Devi end her fast by giving her an assurance to end corruption.
