Visakha Dairy polls go into controversy
Visakhapatnam, September 28, 2004

Every thing is ready for the election of three directors of Visakha Dairy on Wednesday amidst charges between Congress and TDP leaders. The original 18th September elections for these posts had to be postponed following exchange of blows among the supports and activists of the rival parties near Visakha Dairy and forcing the police to resort to a lathi charge.

The issue assumed importance in the wake of the TDP delegation led by the Dairy Chairman Adari Tulasirao and others and submitted a memorandum to the Governor.

The Commissioner of Police, B.Prasada Rao who held a review meeting with the representatives of various parties on Monday said prohibitory orders would be clamed near the Visakha Diary plant. He said only genuine voters and polling personnel will be allowed to enter the plant and violence of any sort would not be tolerated.

Medical shops raided
Visakhapatnam, September 28, 2004

The Drugs Control Administration has served notices on 10 chemists in the district for selling cough syrups without prescription and without issuing sales bill. The Drug Inspector of Visakhapatnam City, Ravi Uday Bhaskar said in a press conference on Tuesday that raids were conducted from September 22nd to 25th to check the sale of habit forming drugs.

The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Chairman and Managing Director, BK Panda inaugurated the 1.6 acre Turnaround at Sector 11 of Ukkunagaram on Tuesday. The park, which has many amenities like bird shelter, play equipment for children, has been developed to mark the remarkable turnaround achieved by Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in the recent past.

One dies in road accident near Adarsh Nagar
Visakhapatnam, September 28, 2004

A person died on the spot with head injuries when the van in which he was traveling overturned after being hit by a water tank near Adarsh Nagar on Tuesday. According to the police sources the impact of the accident was so severe that the van overturned killing a person and grievously injuring another one who was admitted to KGH.

Madhumathi ends fast
Visakhapatnam, September 28, 2004

N.Madhumati Devi who went on an indefinite fast from September 15th asking the Government to end corruption, called off the hunger strike on Tuesday and decided to take up other forms of agitation to achieve her goal. She was convinced by the women's organizations who lent support throughout and said she would continue her struggle with the help of organizations and individuals who were sincere in ending corruption.
