YSR promises Super specialty hospital for Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, October 18, 2004

The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday during a stop over on his way to Hyderabad said that the Government has taken a decision 'in principle' to set up a super speciality Hospital at Adarshnagar on the lines of NIMS. He said a committee would be formed under the chairmanship of the District Collector within a week to ensure alienation of land from the Old Dairy Farm at Adarshnagar tot the district administration for the proposed hospital.

It will be named Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences As far as funds are concerned, he said he would raise the funds with contributions from the Government as well as various institutions and individuals. The VMC and Steel Plant would be requested to contribute Rs.10 crores each. He also promised to upgrade the KGH.

IT Park in the city
Visakhapatnam, October 18, 2004

Speaking to the pressmen, the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konatala Ramakrishna said the Government had arrived at a consensus to concede to the demand of the senior citizens to develop an Information Technology park on the old Jail land located in the heart of the city.

He said, serious efforts were on to develop Visakhapatnam as an alternate IT hub after Hyderabad. Apart from developing it, as a lung space, the Government was also considering allotting two acres for Visakha Government Women's College and five acres for an IT Park or a shopping mall.

Car rally for Mandapam
Visakhapatnam, October 18, 2004

Visakha Tarangini, an organization run by followers of Tridandi Chinna Srimannarayana Jeeyar will take out a rally on 6th November with more than 1000 cars to Tirupati to demand reconstruction of the 1000 pillar mandapam at Tirumala. The secretary, Suryanaryana said the rally would begin at Seethanagaram, near Vijayawada and terminate at Alamelumanga temple at Tiruchanur. He said they will submit their representations to the TTD authorities on all issues concerning the temple. Followers of Chinna Jeeyar and devotees of Lord Venkateswara will participate in the rally.

APSRTC to introduce Garuda service
Visakhapatnam, October 18, 2004

The APSRTC of Visakhapatnam region will introduce a Garuda, an air conditioned Volvo luxury bus service to Srikakulam from Tuesday. Stating this, the Regional Manager of the APSRTC, D.Satyanarayana said that the bus will start at 8.30am and 11am at Visakhapatnam and from Srikakulam to Visakhapatnam the bus will start at 10.30am and 11am. The fare is Rs.90 for adult and Rs.70 for child. He said two more Garuda bus services will be introduced from Visakhapatnam to Tirupati and Vijayawada shortly.
MPLAD funds for building
Visakhapatnam, October 18, 2004

The MP, N.Janardhana Reddy has recommended construction of a building at the Turner's Choultry in the city at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs, to be released from his Member of Parliament's Local Area Development Scheme funds. He conveyed this information to the District Collector Praveen Prakash. He also sanctioned Rs.2 lakhs for the construction of an entrance gate for the fishermen's locality at Kobbari Thota and another Rs.3 lakhs for construction of a school at Jutthada in Pendurty mandal.
