Visakhapatnam, October 28, 2004

Sri Satya Sai Seva Organization on Thursday distributed twenty six sewing machines, three wheel chairs, one wet grinder and hearing aids to the poor and the needy. These were gifted by the proprietor of CMR complex, MV Ramana and were given away by the Vice Chairman of UVDA, Dasari Sreeninvasulu.

BSNL extends bill payment date

The BSNL has extended pay by date of the telephone bills dated 7th October 2004 from 28th October to November 16th according to a release by the BSNL.

Record profit by NALCO
Visakhapatnam, October 28, 2004

The National Aluminium Company ltd., the country’s leading manufacturer and exporter achieved the highest ever quarterly net profit of Rs.275.5 crores for the second quarter which ended on September 30th against 187.18 crores for the corresponding period last year. Alumina production increased from 3.7 lakh tones to 3.82 lakh tones while Aluminium production went up to 83,175 tonnes from 75,255 tonnes according to a press release.

Changes in House functioning
Visakhapatnam, October 28, 2004

The Assembly Speaker, KR Suresh Reddy has said that people will see some changes in the functioning of the House from its next session. Sticking to the time schedule is the main responsibility of the members and thi will be one of the changes that can be seen from the next session, he said in a press conference held at the residence of the Pendurty MLA T.Gurumurty Reddy on Thursday.

The Ethics Committee of the Assembly reviews the code of conduct for MLAs and Ministers but no complaint has been received. The Speaker said that officials should extend all support and help to MLAs and Assembly Committees indirectly referring the alleged complaint against the absence of District Collector when the Estimates Committee was scheduled to have discussions with him.

DGP says he is not against talks with Naxals
Visakhapatnam, October 28, 2004

The Director General of Police, SR Sukumara on Thursday said he not against talks and the utterances against the CPIL (Maoist) would not derail the dialogue process. He said that he is issuing statements based only on factual position as per the guidelines framed by the State Government he said while inaugurating a round the clock dial 100 call centre. The DGP said that booking of cases against Maoist, if evidence was found on their involvement in felling of trees in Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Kurnool and Warangal districts.

Tree felling – tribals in jail
