New Election system is required - says Lok Satta
Visakhapatnam, October 13, 2004

The Lok Satta State coordinator DVVS Varma in a press conference held on Wednesday said that the present outdated election system should be replaced with new Election system due to change in the socio economic system. There should be an Act that prevents the criminal history persons should not contest in the elections.

There are 23 Lok Satta branches in the State and further said that in hundred Municipalities and 450 Mandals, the branches are there. The General Body will be held on 17th of this month and executive committee members will be elected for the entire 24 districts and a seminar will be conducted. In this occasion, the Lok Satta district Chairman Raghunadharao, president MVVS Roy and others participated.

Dharna by Electricity Employees
Visakhapatnam, October 13, 2004

The United Electricity Employees Union has conducted a dharna on Wednesday morning before its main office. In his address, he demanded that contract employees problems should be sorted out immediately and wages have to be paid vide GO 524, and there should not be any retrenchment of contract employees and extending the benefits of PF.ESI etc., to them. A memorandum with a list of demands was submitted to the Electricity Superintendent (Engineer) by Visakha Regional president and Divisional Secretary.

Id moon
Visakhapatnam, October 13, 2004

Rooyat-e-Hilal Committee of the Islamic centre met on Wednesday and decided that the Ramzan and the Id moon is not visible in the city. If the moon is visible within 500 km radius and if some Muslims give evidence, it would be accepted said Syed Shamsuddin, committee member.

SBI sanctioned Rs.136 crores as loans
Visakhapatnam, October 10, 2004

The State Bank of India sanctioned a record of 36crores as personal loans during the four day Maha Utsav which concluded on Wednesday. Addressing a valedictory of the Utsav, the SBI General Manager, Syed Shahubuddin said 70 per cent of the loans sanctioned were home loans. Around 12000 persons visited the Utsav.
