Request to stop work on Beach Road
Visakhapatnam, October 26, 2004

A voluntary organization working for the welfare of the traditional fishermen, has requested the Parliamentary Standing Committee to ensure that the High Court Stay on taking up of work on the Visakha-Bheemili Beach Road project was implemented.

The Keratam Network submitted a memorandum to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee alleging that the R & B department had resumed work on the beach road project in spite of the stay orders issued by the High Court. The High court allowed the VUDA and R & B to take up expansion of the beach road for only a two kilo meters stretch, works like jungle clearance and pegging had been going on, the memorandum said.

In a press release issued by VUDA, its project manager clarified that the VUDA had taken up development of the Beach Road only on the two km stretch permitted by the High Court and was not connected with the work being taken up on the rest of the road.
