ISCIF meet in the city
Visakhapatnam, October 19, 2004

The national council meet and the State convention of the Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship will be held on November 6th and 7th. According to the ISCUF State chairman, K.Venkateswarlu, the convention is being held at a time when the global situation needed international and cultural cooperation and a dialogue for peace and development and to address the problems of international terrorism, violence and religious fundamentalism.

Former Supreme Court Judge VR Krishna Iyer, the former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice, SS Kang, the ex-chairman of the Law commission BP Jeevan Reddy and the World Peace Council honorary president Romesh Chandra will attend.

Rally by Cargo workers
Visakhapatnam, October 19, 2004

Cargo handling private pool workers took out a rally in the port area on Tuesday and staged dharna in front of the Karmika Jyothi Bhavan demanding consideration of their demands by the special board meeting of the Dock Labour Board.

According to the Visakhapatnam Harbour and Port Workers' Union general secretary, BCh.Maasen, the meeting unanimously resolved to endorse a comprehensive audit of accounts for the cargo handling private pool workers and recast eh managing committee to include representatives' from the administration of the port and Labour unions.

MCA in Distance Mode by ICFAI
Visakhapatnam, October 19, 2004

ICFAI University has launched MCA course on distance learning mode. Students joining the two year course have to attend classes at the study centre set up in the city after paying Rs 43,000 towards fees and course material according to the ICFAI senior regional manager BS Balaji on Tuesday.

Repairs to King George Hospital
Visakhapatnam, October 19, 2004

The Minister for Commercial Taxes Konatala Ramakrishna on Tuesday announced the sanction of Rs.4.5 crores for undertaking repair and renovation work on the KGH. After a review meeting with its doctors and officials, he said the amount would be spent on works of permanent nature. He also promised to release more funds for improving facilities in the KGH. He asked the MCV to connect the KGH drainage system to the underground drainage pipeline at the earliest. The District Collector, ZP Chairperson, KGH Superintendent and other officials participated in the meeting.

Paediatric ophthalmic division inaugurated

A pediatric ophthalmic division was inaugurated at Sankar Hospital in Srinivasanagar near Simhahclam by the Joint Collector, Peeyush Kumar on Tuesday. The hospital chief, R.Suryanaryana Raju spoke on the occasion.
