Software firm accused of cheating youth
Visakhapatnam, November 9, 2004

Hundreds of youth and housewives stormed on hearing the new of closure of an export oriented software firm, ransacked its office situated at MVP colony, Visakhapatnam on Tuesday demanding refund of the security deposit and settlement of other dues. The company is said to have got a library automation project for a UK based client.

The firm requisitioned the services of the students, unemployed youth and housewives who had computers at home to undertake data entry jobs by paying a deposit of Rs 5000/-. On completion of the each assignment, the operators were paid remuneration amounting to few thousands of rupees. The promise was that one could earn upto Rs 10,000 a month sitting at home.

The firm has branches at Gajuwaka, Vizianagaram and Kakinada. As the company failed to fulfill its promise, large number of innocents ransacked the office. The police closed the doors of the office and prevented the operators to enter into the office. During this mess, a photographer of a Telugu daily was injured.
