A two day national seminar on India Insurance Industry Emerging Trends and Challenges was organized by the College of Management Studies, GITAM on Friday. Andhra University Vice Chancellor Prof.YC Simhadri inaugurated the function and said that Indian insurance industry is facing intense competition from private and multinational companies after the industry was liberalized in 2000. IRDA member TK Banerjee explained the initiatives taken by the IRDA in strengthening and developing the insurance sector.

AMAL College, Anakapalle is hosting the Andhra University Inter collegiate Youth Festival 2004. The festival includes debates, quiz, and elocution. Mime and many other competitions for about 400 students from the affiliated colleges of Andhra University are expected to participate.

S-Square, an event management firm will be organizing a non stop music and dance show on Saturday at Gurazada Kalakshetram for children and adults. The programme would also feature the mimicry artiste, Jatara Butchi Babu from Hyderabad according to Srinivas of S Square. The Visakhapatnam Custom House is now fully computerized with the introduction of electronic data interface system and internet linked with all the Customs ports in the Country. The Chief Commissioner of Customs, TV Sairam, said that it is now possible to access the classification and valuation as adopted in major Custom Houses. Increased use of technology had enabled the department to effectively discharge its enforcement functions while at the same time meeting the needs of a dynamic and fast paced international trade in Visakhapatnam Zone, he said.
