Keeping a tab on noise pollution
Visakhapatnam, July 30, 2004

High sound horns, loud speakers and other music at marriage and social functions will cause many people neurosis, anxiety, insomnia and cardiac diseases etc.,

The Department of Environment Sciences, Andhra University, hit upon a novel idea to check noise pollution in Visakhapatnam launched a sensitization program to educate automobile riders on the campus about the ill effects of sound pollution. The Department Head of Environmental Sciences, EUB Reddy said that the Hospitals, educational institutions and courts have been categorized under silent zones where noise level should not exceed 50dB during day time.

The Government of India has prescribed noise levels and their limits under the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
