Visakha Utsav from 14th January 2005

Visakha Utsav will be held from 14th January to 16th next year with 'Pride of Vizag' as its theme. Ramakrishna beach would be the main venue with Kailasagiri is other venue of the festival, the District Collector, Praveen Prakash said at a meeting of officials on Monday. It was decided that the festival should depict the rich cultural heritage and huge tourism potential of the district. The officials were directed to make necessary plans for conducting of the festival in a befitting manner. Committees and sub committees would be formed to take up the Utsav. Vipasan training

A five day Vipasana training camp by Buddha Vihara Foundation Trust began on Monday at the Dharmasakthi Bhavan near Reading Room. Rotary Club of Visakha Port City has organized a bone densitometry camp in the slum areas of Prasad Gardens. The president of the club, Anuradha Reddy said since the poor could not afford the test costing Rs1500 it had been decided to organize the camp. The orthopedic surgeon Aslam Arifi and Suman examined the patients and conducted tests. Free medicines and counselling were provided. Visakha Dairy staff robbed

A couple of unidentified offenders astride a motorcycle snatched a bag containing Rs.3.21 lakhs from two employees of the Sri Vijaya Visakha Dairy in Ukkunagaram and inflicted knife injuries on one on Monday according to Steel Plant Police. The two employees were returning to the dairy on a motorcycle after collecting money from milk booths in Ukkunagaram when they the offenders stopped them on the pretext of enquiring about an address. Rally by Anganwadi workers

Anganwadi workers in the district organized a mammoth rally in the city on Monday demanding that the Government resolve their issues locally. This was in response to a call given by the Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union affiliated to CITU. The participants demanded to provide job security and divest the mother's committees of their powers, and wage hike, etc., The other important issues was the TA and DA and payment of rentals, failure to sanction increments and allowances. The workers also complained of harassment by the officials and demanded immediate payment of wages which were stopped.
