Satyam Computer Services has announced to start operations in Visakhapatnam and the Government has promised to allot land to the company for constructing its own facilities. A Joint announcement of the company's plans was made by the Chief Minister and Satyam's Computers Chairman, B.Ramalinga Raju at a press conference on Tuesday. Dr.Reddy said two more Information Technology companies were planning to start operations in Visakhapatnam in three months. The Government was finalizing the new IT policy which would separate from Hyderabad and other cities effective from 1st January.

Hundreds of teachers, displaced persons, workers of BHPV and Shipyard companies, farmers and Anganwadi workers all took to the street in separate shows of dissent in the city on Monday and converged on the Collectorate pressing for their problems. They carrying banners, red flags and placards, they marched through the main roads. Traffic was disrupted en route with the demonstrators picking on the main roads. With many of the roads dug up for laying cables and Godavari Water pipelines, the agitating groups caused inconvenience for the vehicular traffic. More than 3000 teachers under the banner of United Teachers' Federation went in a procession from the VM main building to the Collectorate. They observed a daylong dharna in front of the Collectorate in pursuit of their main demand to scrap the order insisting that teachers to stay in the same are as their place of work. The Hindustan Shipyard labour and Staff Union affiliated to the CITU which also took out a huge rally to the Collectorate submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister to the Collector.

The first phase of mass drug administration programme on Wednesday to eliminate lymphatic filariasis should be cent per cent success in the city. The Municipal Commissioner, N.Srikanth told the Corporation's medical officers and sanitary inspectors on Tuesday. The MDA with the administration of diethyly Cabamazine inn the required dose is being conducted in the district for the first time on 15th December declared as the National Filaria Day. The programme will continue for five years.

The police and some members of the CPI (Maoist) exchanged fire for a brief while near Yerragadda village in GK Veedhi mandal of the agency area on Tuesday morning. The firing occurred when one of the police parties were conducting checks in some villages after the Maoists took away survey equipment from the Survey of India staff at U.Cheedipalem village a few days ago. According to a pres release from the SP, Sanjay Kumar Jain, late on Tuesday evening the police visited these areas, they were fired upon by some naxals and the police returned fire in self defense.
