The Income Tax Department on Monday clarified that tax transactions were not going to the suspense account due to non quoting of PAN on challans or its incorrect capture by banks. The Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, PA Chowdary in a press release denied reports to this effect in a section of the media, and said that the apprehensions that taxpayers whose entries did not have PAN would not get credit for such payments, was not correct as each challan was identifiable by a unique Challan Identification Numbers. He announced that from 1st January quoting of PAN on all challans would be mandatory.

The 49th Dak and Pension Adalat to hear the complaints and grievances of the public and pensioners of the department of Post relating to Visakhapatnam Division will be held at the premises of the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Post Office on January 11th. Complaints or grievances, if any, on these matters can be sent to PV Subbarao, Sr.Superintendent on or before 6th January.

Five persons engaged in illegal quarrying for semi precious stones were feared killed and 14 others injured when an unauthorized quarry in Golugonda mandal of the agency area collapsed on Monday night according to reports. This mishap occurred in the thick forest area and the police could not venture to enter into the agency area which are the strongholds of naxals.

Maanasa Brindavanam, a musical tribute to Lord Krishna in the shape of a 100 page book and six volumes each in audio CDs and cassettes, will be released here on Wednesday. Karra Suryakantam, founder of the Aham Brahmosmi Satsang told a press conference on Monday that the 'Maanasa Brindavanam' was compilation of the keertans she had written on Lord Krishna during the last 30 years.
