GITAM College encroached Government land

The State Government disclosed on Friday that the GITAM College had encroached upon 6.09 acre of land at Yendada village and necessary steps were being taken to recover it. The Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said in the Assembly that the college authorities had been asked to demolish the compound wall. The entire land of 71.15 acre of Government land was allotted to Gitam College at a cheaper rate of Rs.18,000 per acre and its encroachment is 6.09 acres. Network to link villages

The proposed broadband IT Connectivity project which benefits the common man with e literacy would start in the next six months. The project would be taken up in three phases at a cost of Rs.572 crores. The project enables the State Government in providing basic information on weather forecasting, soil testing and entertainment to the people. The project, connecting 23,000 villages with a capacity of 50mb each is going to be the first of its kind in the country according to IT advisor to the State Government CS Rao. Speaking to reporters, he said the first phase of the project connecting all the 23 district headquarters was expected to by ready by July next year. New bridge proposed

The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority will take up the construction of bridge on Suddagedda Lake in the Lake View layout, Madhurawada so as to provide a direct approach to the local residents according to the VUDA Vice chairman D.Varaprasad. He ordered the VUDA officials to take up the bridge construction immediately. The proposed bridge links to the existing 80 foot road in the Lake View layout with 100 foot road passing through Mithilapuri VUDA Colony. Mega Housing scheme by LIC

For the benefit of the LIC policy holders, Life Insurance Corporation is starting a mega Housing Scheme shortly at Seetammadara. Under this scheme, under Phase II construction will commence in 104 plots according to LIC Senior Divisional Manager Behra in a press conference held on Saturday. Two or three bed room plots will be constructed and application registration will be completed in the current month. The construction will start in 2005 and will be completed by 2007. The cost of the plots is estimated in between Rs12 lakhs to 15 lakhs with all amenities. Rs 40,000 have to be paid along with application as a deposit he said. Applications for B.Ed examinations

Applications have been invited from eligible candidates who were admitted during the academic year 2003-04 and supplementary candidates for the B.Ed theory examinations. The last date of receipt of examination application is 29th of this month and with a fine of Rs100 is 5th January and the theory examinations will commence from 1st March. Andhra Bank proposes to open more branches

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the Bank's Mega Loan Campaign programme, its Executive Director, R.Balakrishnan said that the Bank will open 50 more branches six of them in the State before the end of the year. He said the bank was extending loans to the tune of Rs 3200 crores. The ATMs of the bank were connected to 540 branches and the facility was available to some villages too. The bank's old buildings would be reconstructed. He inaugurated the 17th ATM in the zone and 305th of the bank was inaugurated at Simhachalam on Saturday. Dhanurmasa Utsavam

District Collector directs withdraw HRA

The recent decree of Collector Praveen Prakash asking Government employees working in rural areas to reside at the place of work has resulted in the withdrawal of HRA benefits to more than 1500 teachers so far. The decision was taken despite an agitation launched by various teachers associations. He said the department would not stop at mere withdrawal of HRA if the teachers continue to commute another show cause notice would be served and increments would be cut.
