Petrol thieves arrested in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, August 12, 2004

Following reports of regular theft of fuel from train tankers, the police at last could arrest five persons who were stealing petrol and diesel from train tankers and selling them to the public at a lower price. A van in which they used to transport the stolen fuel was also seized. The raid was conducted following a directive by the Additional DCP, AV.Subba Rao. In another case, the 5th town police arrested a woman for allegedly cheating members of chit schemes run by her.

BJP to stand in VMC elections

The Bharateeya Janatha Party will contest in all the 50 wards of the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation in the ensuing elections according to BJP State president N.Indrasena Reddy on Wednesday. Addressing the office bearers of the BJP unit, he advised them to identify the party candidates for all the 50 wards.

CPI proposes agitation program

Visakhapatnam The district unit of the CPI has decided to organize an agitation program on August 26th to press for the execution of the Polavaram project and construction of its left canal. The CPI district committee meeting held on Wednesday, the party secretary JV.Satyanaryana Murty said the State Government announcement to allocate Rs.1300 crores to Polavaram right canal gave for suspicion. Massive dharnas would be staged in the first phase on August 26th.
