Bank Strike on 24th
Visakhapatnam, August 23, 2004

In response to the call for an all India Strike, the employees of various banks owing allegiance to the United Forum of Bank Unions will observe one day strike on Tuesday.

According to the SBI Officers' Association Chief Regional Secretary SN Sahu, employees and officers of various banks will assemble at the SBI Zonal Office in the APSRTC complex at 10am to hold a 'Centralized demonstration'.

Anganwadi building inaugurated
Visakhapatnam, August 23, 2004

The Mayor, Rajana Ramani on Monday inaugurated the new buildings of the Anganwadi at the Dalit Street in Sithampeta and the urban health centre in Resapuvaniplam.

The Anganwadi building was constructed at a cost Rs.4.92 lakhs while the health centre with Rs.3.96 lakhs. The Municipal Commissioner was present on the occasion.

Prof.Simhadri's dismissal sought

The Joint Action Committee for Protection of Andhra University organized a procession and staged a rasta-roko at the Asilmetta junction on Monday as a part of its agitation against Vice-Chancellor YC Simhadri.

A former MLA and a dismissed Associate Professor of AU P.Varalakshmi and the convener of the JAC Prof.Surappadu and others once again demanded that the Government should remove Prof.YC.Simhadri and reinstate all the dismissed teachers and employees and restore admission and degrees to the students who faced disciplinary action for participating in the agitation. They burnt the effigy of Prof.Simhadri

VMC to keep tab on Underground drainage connection
Visakhapatnam, August 23, 2004

Flat owners in group housing and apartments can now cheep up with the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation deciding to follow the hose tax being paid by as the yard stick for finalizing the underground drainage connection charges.

The VMC Superintending Engineer P.Pandurangarao said that a notification containing details on the new offer would be issued in a few days.
