Sitaram Yetchuri said that CPM will stand by its principles on the topic of formation of smaller states. He said that smaller states should be formed only on the basis of language and felt that other factors should not be brought about into this. He said that there are as many as 29 regions demanding for their statehoods and if granted, it would result in breaking the country into 60-odd regions resulting in the suffering of unity. CPM, as principle, is against the formation of smaller states, he said.

Tie-ups with other parties for local body elections

Speaking on the topic of local body elections, Sitaram Yetchuri said that the local body elections are to be taken at the local level only and the party caders at the lower levels will look into this in the interest of people in the region. He said that the tie-up with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are at local level only and not at national level. He felt that the TDP is not clear on their stand on various topics.

On the possibility of working with Lok Satta Party, the newly formed political party from Andhra Pradesh, he said that his party has no objects to join hands with other parties. He said that discussions would be held to see if both the parties have common vision and goals. He however said that this is too early and said that something could be said only after the formation of the party.
