CPM stand on various issues

Speaking on the Office of Profit issue that is causing waves in almost all political parties at National level, he said that the issue of Office of Profit issue is a much larger issue than what it is view today and that the Government has to bring about more clarity.

Industrialization and land acquisition

CPM is not against industrialization whether it is in West Bengal or Haryana or in Andhra Pradesh. However the party has set a three point order or priority in which lands are to be acquired. He said that Government owned lands are the first to be looked after for allotment to industries followed by non-agricultural land and the least preference to single crop lands only when there are no alternatives left. He said that when acquiring lands from single crop lands, the Government has to give the correct market price along with 56% compensation and rehabilitation to the farmer family. Jobs in the industry could be given out. CPM is completely against acquisition of multi-crop lands for the purpose of industrialization, he said.

Sitaram Yetchuri quoted an example of how 25,000 acres of land is allotted to industries under the name of Special Export Zones (SEZ) in Haryana. He reminded how fertile zones of Haryana are soon turning into industrial zones.

CPM is against FDI’s into retail sector primarily because their entry will drastically hit the small retailers and kirana shops of the country forcing them to become unemployed. Thus the FDI investments in retail sector will actually hits employment.

On other topics..

Sitaram Yetchuri was extremely delighted in answering questions raised by the pressmen. His specialty of expressing views in a very easy to understand fashion led pressmen to ask on his views on various topics. Speaking on retirement age for politicians, he quoted that ‘Retirement is not a career but a commitment for social change’. He said that it is unfortunate that some politicians are however taking politics as a career. While this is not the case with all the politicians, he said that politics is today viewed as the way Human Relation professions view CTC (Cost-To-Company). Politicians should view the term as Contribution-to-Country, he felt.

The concept of Right To Information (RTO) being circulated in its present form is very dangerous, he said. He said that CPM has fought for bringing the 6th Pay Commission.

Prabhakara Sharma of the Vizag Journalist Forum felicitated Sitaram Yetchuri.
