Says India is largely an under insured country

On Thursday, the Max New York Life Insurance launched several health insurance products. Under the brand name Lifeline health insurance services, the company has introduced long term insurance coverage for hospitalization, multiple surgeries and critical illness.

Vice President (South Zone) of the Company APS Bhalla told media persons that they were also taking care of recuperation expenses. The insurance products have features like fixed premium for five year, no claim discount on revised premiums, coverage for largest range of ailments free second opinion and free telephone medical helpline.

Bhalla expressed at poor health insurance coverage in the country and pointed out that only 2.1 percent in urban areas and 0.5 percent in rural areas had taken the policies for health purposes. On the meteoric rise of their company, he said their turnover had gone up from Rs.30 crores in 2001 to Rs.1,419 crores in 2007.
