Heated debate takes place in General Body Meeting
The General Body meeting of Visakhapatnam Zilla Parishad here on Tuesday approved a budget of Rs.142.27 crores for 2008-09 amidst heated arguments between the Congress and opposition members on the budget.
The opposition demanded to pass a resolution to drop the move to take up bauxite mining in the agency area. They brought the plight of Girijans being allegedly harassed by the police , acquition of farm lands for industries and sand mining that is affecting fishermen, laying of roads in the agency area and other issues sparked off arguments between the members.
Narsipatnam MLA Ch Ayyanna Patrudu pulled up mining department officials for reducing the penalty imposed on a person for illegally mining sand in Makavarapalem areas. Vizianagaram MP Botsa Jhansi, MLAs Ch Venkata Rao, Karri Seetharam, Karanam Dharmasree and UV Ramana Murty Raju and several ZPTCs and MPPs, Joint Collector M Veerabrahmaiah, ZPP CEO P Rama Rao and other district officials participated in the meeting.
