18 injured; Rescue operations initiated; Minister promises support

Two laborers are killed while 18 injured when an multi storied building which is in the construction phase in the busy Daba Gardens region of the city collapsed. The incident happened at around 12:30 PM midnight. The incident happened when decking of sixth floor collapsed on fifth floor which in turn collapsed on the fourth floor killing two who are sleeping.

Police Commissioner Sambasiva Rao, DCP Law and Order Gopala Rao and other police officials visited the site and supervised the rescue works which took place till late in the morning. Minister for Commercial Taxes Konathala Ramakrishna visited the accident area and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He said that the Government will extend financial support under the Apadbandhu and the Group Insurance Scene as applicable.

Visakhapatnam has reported few such building collapses in the past. As many as 3 buildings under construction have collapsed in the last three years.
