Youth from Araku and Anathagiri meets District Collector

Today, at the District Collectorate witnessed uproarious scenes when two groups of tribal youths plunged into intense arguments with regard to setting up of the bauxite-mining project in the Agency areas. The police left with no alternative except to use mild force to disperse the mob when the situation turned to be violent.

A group of tribal youths from Araku and Anathagiri mandals met the Collector Sanjay Kumar to submit a memorandum in support of the bauxite-mining project stating that it would provide employment for hundreds of tribal youth. As they were leaving the Collectorate, activists from Andhra Pradesh Girijan Sangham obstructed them and raised slogans against the project.

As the Araku and Anantagiri youths argued that the mining project would act as level for the development of the village, the Girijana Sangham members opposed it saying it would ruin the lives of tribals. A verbal duel turned to be violent and the police used mild force to disperse them.
