Jaggery prices moves to Rs. 115 per kg
The annual Sammakka and Sarakka jatara at Medaram in Warangal district has turned out to be a boon for jaggery traders of Anakapalli. To meet the demand of the pilgrims, nearly 60 tons of jaggery per day is being transported to Medaram. The pilgrims offer jaggery equivalent to the weight of the twin Goddess resulting the price soar to Rs.115 per 10 kg cake from Rs.96.
The Anakapalli market exports 120 tons of jaggery per day to West Bengal and Bihar. However, on demand from the dealers, the traders are diverting four categories of the product that priced Rs.90, 95,100, and 115 per 10 kg a cake to Medaram.
According to a trader, said that they are exporting jaggery for the first time in such huge quantity. The customers at Medaram have to shell down more money due to transportation charges and retail costs. There is no doubt about the quality of Anakapalli jaggery compared to other parts. It is reported that nearly 500 tons of jaggery is being offered to the Medaram Goddess every day that will be distributed as prasadam to the devotees.
