Port authorities plans five berths of which one is ready for operation

The Gangavaram Port costing Rs.3,500 crore, a totally mechanized private port today achieved a milestone of sorts by hoisting a two lakh deep water tonnage vessel besides completing constructions in just one and half years record. The works are slated to be completed by March end and commercial operations will begin in April.

According to highly placed officials sources said that the commercial operations will begin in April. As per schedule, AICC president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the port. A Shanghai merchant vessel Zhenhua will port equipment recently berthed at the iron ore dock successfully. The cargo was delivered to Duro Felguera, the project equipment contractor for the Port. The Port, with its’ super cape size’ and ‘deep draft green field for which construction is underway in phase I will commence operations by April.

According to Port authorities, a north and south breakwater constructions would be completed by March end. The Gangavaram Port is building an 1800 metre ‘Wave Protective Walls’ on south and 800 metre on north. The south WPW building has been completed. The dredging work in the channel has reached a depth of 15 metres. It is supposed to go up to 20 metres by March end.
