Two Indonesian nationals arrested
The Customs officials here today arrested two Indonesians for illegally procuring foreign and Indian currencies by selling marine gas oil to fishing boats and trawlers inside Indian territorial waters. The officials seized Indian and foreign currencies worth nearly Rs.48.42 lakhs and Indian currency worth Rs.16,750 from the accused.
In a press release, the Customs Joint Commissioner Shabhoo Nath said that the crews of Crest Nautika from Indonesia sole the marine gas oil to fishing boats and trawlers at outer anchorage of Visakhapatnam Port and collected the amount over a period of time. The accused diverted and sold the fuel meant for supply to Geco Searcher and Crest Nautika.
The Custom Officials on a tip off rummaged through the vessel and seized the amount. The Captain and Chief Engineer of Crest Nautika were arrested and sent for judicial custody and further investigation is on to identify the other accomplices.
