Destroys liquor bottles in front of pilgrims and stage a dharna
The activists of Bharatijya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) raided a belt shot near Sri Varaha Lakshminrushimha Swamy temple at Simhachalam and destroyed liquor bottles on Wednesday. On a tip off, nearly 25 activists raided two houses and recovered 200 empty and 10 full bottles. Later, they destroyed them in front of pilgrims after informing the excise and Devastanam officials.
BJYM city president V Mahesh said though they had confirmed operation of 11 belt shops from houses at the holy abode, on information about their visit, the operators closed nine shops. He alleged that there was cold response from the excise officials when they informed then about the sale of liquor at belt shops on the holy temple premises.
An aide of Devastanam Executive Officer came to the protest site and claimed that though they alerted the Excise officials, no action was taken in this regard. Agitated over his remarks, the activists staged a dharna in front of the temple. Mahesh said they would take action if the authorities concerned failed to initiate action against sale of liquor and prostitution at the holy place.
