Police Commissioner holds discussions with officials of various departments
The Commissioner of Police, N Sabmaba Siva Rao on Monday has held a coordination meeting with the officials of GVMC, Fire, Medical and Health, Fisheries Departments and the police as a part of preparation for the upcoming Ganesh festival. The meeting is held in the wake of recent Hyderabad blasts. Speaking to media after the meeting, he said that the city police are on the way of making elaborate arrangements for the peaceful conduct of Ganesh Navaratri that will be held from September 15 to 23, 2007.
The Commissioner asked that puja organizers to ensure round the clock watch on any specious, unclaimed, unattended people or items nearby the pandals and urged the devotees to be vigilant. He also urged the organizers to inform the police about the place where the idol would be erected besides the date and place of immersion and obtain permission for installing of loud speakers.
The Commissioner said that music played at the pedals should not exceed 10 decibels, while fire crackers and obscene songs and dances are strictly prohibited. At least one person should be at the pandal to ensure maintenance of queue, arrangements of proper illumination, and use of loud speakers near places like hospitals, educational institutions and temples during the celebrations. Fitness certificate is a must for vehicles that carry the idols for immersion. He added that the Fisheries Department will deploy 100 expert swimmers to meet the risky operations during the day of immersion.
