Finance Minister clarifies the proposal is a misconstrued prepoll promise
Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Dr. K Rosaiah admitted that the proposal of Rs.2 kg scheme is under consideration and that the Government did not promise yet. Speaking to the media on the possible prepoll, he said that it most unlikely to happen. On the Rs. 2 per kg rice, he said that the Government has sought to know from the Ministry of Finance whether it will be able to adjust the burden on account of raising in subsidy on rice. He said that this was misconstrued as a pre-election promise.
Speaking to media, he said that the Government will not take any decision that results in losing the benefits brought by its compliance with the fiscal responsibility and budgetary management norms. He added that the Government is spending huge amounts on 38 irrigation projects but without affecting the requirement of other Departments.
He ruled out the possibility of mid-term elections at the Centre, giving the reason that the Left Parties are not prepared to bring down the Government despite having difference of opinion on the nuclear deal and other contentious issues. He added that it is a pure speculation that there will be a snap poll for the State Assembly.
