People in large number join hands with left parties to protest Onion prices hike
People in large numbers joined hands with the CPM in staging demonstrations against increasing prices of Onion. Onion prices have touched Rs. 30 in the open market and Rs. 22 at Rythu Bazars. People accused the Civil Supplies Department for its failure to control the prices of onions.
Demonstrations were held at Poorna Market, District Collectorate and many other places in the district. CPM District Secretary Ch Narasing Rao, addressing the people said that the Export Policy of the Government is wrong as it promoted export of Onions to countries like Bangladesh, Malaysia and Singapore without meeting the needs and requirements of the local people first.
Members of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) too staged a demonstration demanding the Government to take immediate steps to make Onion affordable to the common man. It suggested that the Government set up mobile stalls to sell Onions like it did in the past.
