Police makes elaborate arrangements; fishermen-swimmers deployed
As many as 150 Ganesh idols made way into the Ramakrishna Beach on Sunday according to police sources. The idol immersion process lasted till late in the night. Police barricaded the Beach area opposite Kali temple to ensure an incident-free immersion. As the sea is rough, the police have not allowed to take the idols for immersion.
The focus is not just at RK Beach alone but the police managed to employed fishermen and swimmers for task at many other places all along the coast line including Jodugullapalem, Rushikonda, Peda Waltair and Dibbapalem. The organizers of the pandals were asked to handover the idols to the fishermen to immerse them in the sea. The fishermen were provided with life jackets and are being paid by the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Other arrangements such as like barricading and lighting for the event are also put in place.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (security) P Viswaprasad, DCP (law and order) KV Gopala Rao and ACP (Traffic) Devadanam supervised the immersion at the beach. Police personnel were on the job till the entire immersion is over.
