Visakhapatnam MP asks for additional manpower to control air traffic

The Union Defence Minister, AK Anthony has assured the Visakhapatnam MP N Janardhana Reddy that decision on allowing night landing operations at Visakhapatnam Airport would be taken at the earliest possible time by deploying additional manpower as the Navy's INS Dega controls the Airport and the air traffic control.

The MP spoke to Anthony on the issue and said that necessary facilities for night operation like runway lights, approach lights, apron flood lights and obstruction lights on the top of the hills around Visakhapatnam airfield have been created, tested and are ready for use.

He added that night landing facilities would enable International air carriers to begin their flights to Visakhapatnam. Janardhana Reddy told the Minister that most of the business community wanted to reach the city in the morning and return late in the evening. In addition, majority of the regional airlines had also applied for night parking at Visakhapatnam Airport.
