Encourages document filings through its website

The Customs Department has introduced online filing of documents like shipping bills and bills of entry through its website ICEGATE. The system has digital signature certificates for all Internet based transactions meaning the information about the transactions is secured. The trading community can register with the departmental certifying authority, ICERT CA, which is licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities under the IT Act, 2000.

The certificate will be valid for two years from the date of issuance. The Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, Visakhapatnam 1 has been appointed as the verifying authority for the Visakhapatnam zone.
