Tension prevails when agitators tried to barge into the barricades
The CPI activists protesting against the alleged illegal hoarding of essential commodities by the traders made a vain bid to raid some private godowns in Poorna Market on Monday. The police foiled their attempts and used caning before taking them into custody. The CPI district unit president JV Satyanarayana led a large number of activists announced seizure of the godowns as part of their protest programme and took out a rally from CPI office in Allipuram and were stopped by the police when they reached Poorna Market by erecting barricades.
Tension prevailed in the locality when the agitators tried to barge into the barricades forcing the police to wield their lathis to control the mob. During the course, some women agitators received injuries. The police as a preventive measure took custody of the agitators and shifted to One Town police station.
Speaking to media, Satyanarayana Murty charged the police and government were favoring the black marketeers and hoarders. He said that the government failed to strengthen the public distribution system and also failed to curb black marketing. He further said that the party would intensify the agitation.
