Former employee of the jeweler behind the plot
It may be recalled that a city Jeweller V Ramesh was robbed of 3kgs of gold and cash worth of Rs.16.9 lakhs at Allipuram on October 14, 2007 by miscreants posing themselves as policemen. The police has recovered Rs.7 lakhs in cash from the accused. The rest of the money is used by the accused to clear his debts and to buy land and a motor cycle.
The City Police Commissioner, N Sambasiva Rao said that as suspected by the police, the prime conspirator turned out to be a former employee of the victim. The incident occurred when Ramesh was transporting the gold worth Rs.48 lakhs to Coimbatore.
On his way to Railway Station, two persons came on a scooter and obstructed his car at Allipuram and posing themselves as policemen and confiscated the valuables and asked Ramesh to come to Two Town police station to collect the same after producing the documents. When he reached the Two Town police station, he realized that it was not a police action but he had, in fact, been robbed and lodged a complaint. The police during their investigation found that O Samudram of Relli Veedhi had worked with the victim some eleven months ago and he knew the weekly transportation of gold and cash by train and hatched a plan. Investigation reveals that he kept three persons an eye on the movements of Ramesh while the other two posed as policemen and robbed the jeweller. The Police Commissioner cautioned the general public to be cautious while recruiting employees.
