Students stages dharna in front of IV Town Police Station
Students of a private college staged a dharna in front of IV Town Police station on Monday evening after a women constable beat up their classmate in a city bus. A Adilakshmi, a First year student pursuing BCom student who boarded the bus at APSRTC Complex kept a seat reserved for one of her friends. Meanwhile, a constable M Varalakshmi reportedly threw away Adilakshmi's bag from the seat after she refused to accommodate her in the seat.
Varalakshmi, the women constable grew furious over the student's objection and slapped her. She also kicked her causing severe bruises. Not stopping at that, she accused a youth who was traveling in the same bus of misbehavior with her when he tried to restrain her from beating up the girl.
The youth was detained and lodged in IV Town Police Station. Her friends and the girl's classmates sat on a dharna demanding the release of the student. At the end of deliberations for a couple of hours and student's protest, the constable relented and let the student go and apologized for her mistake. Police Commissioner who is in Hyderabad when contacted said the he will look into the incident after returning back to the city and will take action on the constable, if required.
