High alerts at places of worship
In the wake of sounding high alerts by the Intelligence Bureau, the city police decided to increase the vigilance near places of worship. The organizing panels of temples, mosques and churches were asked to procure security equipment like metal detectors, closed circuit cameras and beef up security at the these places. At a meeting held with the leaders of heads of various communities, the City Police Commissioner, N Sambasiva Rao asked them to be vigilant and inform the police about persons moving in and around the places of worship.
He asked them to form special teams to be vigilant round the clock and promised to provide training to these teams for effective functioning. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) KVV Gopala Rao, DCP (traffic) P Viswaprasad and top officials and a large number of community heads participated in the meeting.
According to Superintendent of Police Akun Sabharwal said that two new police stations will be set up at Anakapalli and Yelamanchali to tackle the increased traffic problem and said that a control room will be set up at Anakapalli to receive complaints and grievances from the public. He added that special drives will be launched to keep an eye on illegal operation of auto rickshaws. He said that the Sub Inspectors and Circle Inspectors would be held responsible if they fail to control accidents. He further said that the State Government has sanctioned 700 police personnel to strengthen the functioning of the department.
