Nine people reportedly died due to floods
The recent floods that shattered the lives of people in Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Khammam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram were limping back to normalcy following the respite of rain. Nine persons were died due to floods.
The flights operations at the Visakhapatnam Airport gradually began to reach normalcy levels. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy reviewed the situation and directed the Chief Secretary J Harinarayan to depute experts drawn from departments other than Irrigation to study frequent inundation of the airport. He also directed the officials to ensure quick relief payment of ex-gratia of Rs.1 lakh for death and compensation against damaged crops and houses.
The initial estimate of damage was over 15,000 acres of crops nearly 9,000 houses, mostly partially and breaches to tanks and water bodies. A disaster management of fiscal said that the relief camps had been closed in Visakhapatnam as the families returning home.
