Excise officials seize ganja worth over Rs.80 lakhs

Three persons arrested on smuggling charges

The officials of Excise Department seized ganja worth over Rs. 80 lakhs and arrested three persons for smuggling it. The incident happened near Polytechnic College at Narsipatnam on Tuesday. According to Excise Department officials, a Warangal-based ganja smuggler along with two locals were transporting the ganja in a van to other States through Andhra-Orissa boarder.

On a tip off, an Excise team led by Circle Inspector, GS Bahqadur caught them along with 64 bags of ganja weighting 2,560 kilos. The accused were taken into custody on Tuesday. On interrogation, it is revealed that the ganja is meant to transport to Nashik. The Narsipatnam police have sent the accused to judicial remand.
