Assets worth over Rs.40 lakhs unearthed
The officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted raids at the residence of Building Inspector (TPBO) P Vemana, working in the office of the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Friday and unearthed assets worth more than Rs.40 lakhs disproportionate to the known sources of income.
The Building Inspector in question worked in Nellore where ACB filed a case against him. Subsequently, he was transferred from Nellore to GVMC, Visakhapatnam. Officials of ACB from Nellore along with Visakhapatnam ACB DSP Koteswara Rao, Inspectors K Ranga Raju, Ch. Ravikanth conducted raids on his houses. Sources say it took about 3 days to locate Vemana's Visakhapatnam residence. According to media sources, Vemana is not outwardly and his mobile number is not even known to his colleagues at office.
During the raids, the officials of the ACB found that he possessed assets in Cheerala and Nellore and found documents to this effect. The officials also conducted raids at his own native house in Cheerala . They have come to conclusion that he possessed assets worth over Rs. 40 lakhs and has 16 bank accounts in Guntur, Ananthapur and Visakhapatnam. He also has 16 credit cards. The officials said he possessed six very costly cell phones along with two SIM cards, and cash worth of Rs.5,000 and documents. ACB sleuths were unhappy when Vemana said he is unwell when the raid is being conducted. They also prevented Vemana from speaking on his mobile phone.
