Speakers recollects the formation of the Press Council of India
The Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) of Andhra University (AU), DVR Murty speaking on the occasion of 'National Press Day' on Friday said that the society without press is unimaginable and the survival of common man is possible due to media. He said that the newspapers were very vibrant two decades back because they serve the purpose of society.
He opined that with the television channels with instant supply of news have taken away the punch of the newspaper news. He explained the importance of the National Press Day. The Assistant Professor and Vice President of Journalism Alumni Association C Ramakrishna said that the establishment of Press Council of India (PCI) on November 16, 1966 paved the way for new era in freedom of press.
The Vizag Journalists Forum (VJF) Secretary M Yugandhara Reddy emphasized that the two attributes necessary for journalists were simplicity and credibility. He said the journalists should mingle with common man to develop news sources. He explained the role of journalists in a democratic society.
