After Hyderabad it is likely to be the turn of Visakhapatnam
The much controversial issue over installation of digital meters for autos in the State Capital even before the issue is solved, the Government has decided to implement the same in a phased manner in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Warangal. It is understood that the supply of lakhs of digital meters found to be difficult and consequently, the government has decided to implement the same first in the State Capital despite objections raised by the auto drivers.
It is understood that the State Government is stick to its stand for installation and agitation in the State Capital over the controversial issues is not settled as the both parties stook to their stand. It is now the turn of Visakhapatnam according to available sources, to introduce the same in the city.
The Transport Commissioner, Poonam Malakondaiah on Saturday held a video conference along with additional Transport Commissioner, RTOs and Senior Inspectors and the issue also came up. There are nearly 10,000 autos are plying on the roads of Visakhapatnam. Survey reveals that nearly fifty percent of auto do not have meters and even if installed it is nothing but a show item. Intelligence officials are balancing the pros and cons in the event of instructions for installation may come up in the city.
