The Chief Medical Officer (Health) MS Raju addressing a meeting of health officers and employees, said National Filariasis Prevention programme will be taken up from November 15 to 17 in the city. He said that anti Filariasis drug, DEC tablets would be distributed among 9.5 lakh people in the city.
He further said that nearly 4.378 staff will be deployed to distribute the 27 lakh tablets. However, children below of two years of age, the pregnant and the aged and those running high temperature should not take the tablets. The medicine should not be taken on empty stomach. Those between two and five years of age should take one tablet and the rest with two tablets.
District Malaria Officer Appala Naidu said that in spite of the paucity of staff the spread of filariasis was was brought down because of the awareness among the people. He said that the programmes has been going on for the past three years.
