On the lines of Hyderabad Knowledge Corridor
The State Government is no looking at replicating the Knowledge Corridor project in Visakhapatnam on the lines of Hyderabad Knowledge Corridor (HKC) that is being developed as a hub for IT and IT Enabled Services (ITES). The knowledge corridors are aimed at promoting companies in the emerging sectors of knowledge economy related to IT. ITES, Science and Technology, Research and Development, health, finance and quality, sustainable working and living environment of world class nature.
According to available sources, the State government has identified the Visakhapatnam-Bheemili and the Anakapalli-Pendurty-Anandapuram roads for the Visakhapatnam Knowledge Corridor (VKC) and the officials are veering towards the second alternative for various reasons. The actual Bheemili corridor is between Rushikonda and Bheemili and is 15km whereas the Anakapalli corridor is about 48km long with Pendurty at mid point and areas in either side of the road can be developed like the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad. While the Anakapalli corridor can be integrated with the future expansion and the development of Visakhapatnam whereas the Visakhapatnam Bheemili road is the only major public recreational activities zone available for the people of the city.
If ITES activities are planned along with this road, it would put an end to the recreational activities and the beach road would become congested and unable to handle much traffic in view of topographical constraints and the disadvantage with regard to Bheemili is that air connectivity is almost 30 km along the corridor while in the case of Anakapalli the airport is about 18km and the travels time could be less than an half an hour.
