Contract worth Rs. 1500 crore for third blast furnace
The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has entered into an agreement with a consortium comprising Paul Wurth of Italy and Larson and Turbo for the construction of the third blast furnace which is the crucial component for the expansion project. This award of the contract is believed to be the biggest in the history of the steel plant. The contract also includes a foreign component of Rs. 600 crore.
According to sources, the project includes all civil, structural, electrical and automation works for commissioning of blast furnace whose volume is 3800 cubic metres with a production capacity of 2.5 million tons. The Executive Director (Projects) of VSP AK Banerjee signed the agreement and exchanged the documents with Paul Wurth senior vice president Franco Mura in the presence of the Chairman and Managing Director of VSP, PK Bishnoi.
Meanwhile, the works related to fourth coke oven battery nearly completion. The last silica refractory brick considered as a milestone was laid on Friday by AK Banerjee. The total quality of SRB involved in the project is 14,500 metric tons. The project is likely to be completed by end of July 2007.
