AAI Chairman announced
The Airports Authority of India Chairman K Ramalingam speaking to media on Friday said that the new 10,000 feet runway at Visakhapatnam Airport would be open for 12 hour operation from 8am to 8pm an night landing of planes by June 15. He said that the round the clock operations would commence as and when more fights are introduced.
He said hat the calibration of Instrument Landing System (ILS) has been complete successfully apart from the verification of other navigational aids. He added the airport now has facilities for landing of planes after dark and giving the clearance for round the clock operations.
The Joint Secretary of Ministry of Defence Vinay Kumar stated that the defects in the runway have been rectified. He said that additional staff would be provide by Navy and it depends on the volume of traffic. The Union Minister for Mines T. Subbi Rami Reddy congratulated the Navy and AAI for transforming the airport into a modern one.
