Says relief and rehabilitation provided is the best in the country
Speaking to media, the Minster for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that the Government has ordered relief and rehabilitation (R&R) measures on a priority basis before impounding waters for the irrigation projects under 'Jalayagnam'. He said that Government consulted the World Water Forum for an extensive study of the projects and that all stake holders including riparian states for expertise and to pave the way for smooth execution of the projects.
He said that the relief and rehabilitation package offered by the State government was the best one in the country and refuted the charge that it was hiding facts relate to projects like Polavaram. He said that the Government is ready to clarify in case of any doubts raised by anyone including the Congress leaders. He said that Jalayagnam envisaged irrigation facility to one crore acres with a financial outlay of Rs. 1 lakh crore. So far, Rs. 39,000 crore worth of works were taken up and Rs. 19,000 crore have been spent. A fresh ayacut of 12 lakh acres was created in the last three years and 35 lakh acres more would be covered in the coming years.
He dismissed the allegations by two senior leaders of the party on Pothyreddipadu project works were expedited to cater to the Steel Plant proposed to be set up in Kadapa district. The project was conceived several decades ago and there was no deviation in its design or distribution pattern.
