Rs. 20 crore to be spent on upgradation and research lab establishment
The National Institute of Oceanography(NIO) that is engaged in research and consultancy will be relocated soon at Sagarnagar and Rs. 20 crore will be spent on upgrading the Research Institute and establishing a modern laboratory. The NIO Director KSR Murty said that the NIO as offering expert advice to the consultants in addition assessing environmental impact including Reliance oil and gas exploration, ONGC, Vasco Steel Plant, HPCL, Krishnapatnam Port and host of other industries.
He said that the NIO was providing assistance for construction of single point mooring in mid-sea for transporting crude from the ship to the refinery through the pipes. The National Institute of Oceanography would get Rs. 20 crore in the XI Five Year Plan for construction of a modern laboratory with sensors and equipment for conducting oceanic studies and help fishermen.
