Says cheating in sale of essential commodities are taken care off

Speaking to media on Monday, the Minister for Civil Supplies Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy said that the Civil Supplies and Legal Metrology departments are exploring way and means to plug the loop holes in the task of tackling under weighing of essential commodities and other consumerable goods.

He said that the both the departments have taken note of alleged violation of norms by the public sector oil companies in the sale of motor spirit and LPG. Efforts are on to prevent infringement commodities, mainly sale of mineral water. The Minister said that he Public Distribution System and private dealer networks were replete with instances of under weighing right from the points of supply chains to the markets.

He said that the government was receiving complaints on quantity and quality of rice, milk and other goods including that fall outside the purview of the Essential Commodities Act. Controller of Legal Metrology Tejdeep Kaur Menon said a large number of complaints that LPG cylinders were less than the stipulated weight were received. The Legal Metrology Department is providing a statewide helpline no. 18604253333 to redress the consumer grievances.
